Title
How to wirelessly charge a Dexcom receiver
Content
By George Francis
Reasons
The Dexcom G4 with Share receiver has a fragile MicroUSB port, and if that breaks, the receiver generally cannot be repaired. The intention of wireless charging is to reduce stress on the MicroUSB port and make charging easier overall.
Warning
This is a do-it-yourself mod. Information is provided based only on how other people have accomplished wireless charging. You take all liability and responsibility if attempting this damages your device. Note: Qi receivers generate heat which may reduce the lifespan of LiPo batteries. You will need

A Qi receiver with thin flexible cable and Type B (a.k.a. "Narrow down") plug. Pick one that looks like it will fit on the Dexcom.

A Qi charging pad. Any will work.

Tape. Gaffers tape works well. It is durable and conforms to the shape of the device.

Examples of where to buy these parts:

Qi receiver: eBay

Qi charging pad: eBay

Tape: Amazon

Instructions

Test the Qi receiver. Plug it into the Dexcom microUSB port, and put the Qi receiver on the charging pad. It should begin charging the Dexcom.

Wrap the Qi receiver around the back of the Dexcom to conform to its shape as best as you can.

Wrap tape about the Qi receiver to keep it on. Use scissors and two or three overlapping pieces of tape over the Qi receiver.

Place the Dexcom on the charging pad whenever you want to charge. You should be able to see the coil under the tape as an oval shape bulging through. You want to center the coil on the center of the charging pad. If it is too far off center, the charging pad won't detect it and the pad won't turn on.

Video
To view a video of the finished setup, click here.
